State College defeats Altoona 3-0 in District 6 Championship Final – Volleyball news
The District 6 Championship Title was secured by State College boys volleyball team on Tuesday. It was the squads consistent good performance that the Little Lions were able to hand out a loss to Altoona by winning three back to back sets. Not only did the
Little Lions win the title by making a clean sweep over the Mountain Lions, they did so by bagging each set of the match by a comfortable margin.
As the loud hoots of the Little Lions filled the gym at the Tyrone Middle School where the championship match was held, the score board displayed final set scores of 25-12, 25-15 and 25-17.
The ninth ranked State College team has earned themselves the championship title while putting up an overall season record to be proud of. The performance statistics of the Little Lions show 13 wins with only two losses.
Unfortunately for the Mountain Lions, they have not been able to pull off a season record that can be put in the same category as that of the Little Lions. The number of times that the Mountain Lions have won nine times this season along with four losses.
The Mountain Lions sealed their fate because of the way they started the first set of the match. The whole team was not performing well and all their efforts seemed to be unorganized. The key aspect that was missing in the game of the Mountain Lions was
team coordination. A lack of communication and understanding made it far easy for the Little Lions to assert their dominance over the Mountain Lions from the beginning of the opening set of the game. As a result, the Little Lions did a quick job of bagging
the first set 25-12.
Coming out strong at the start of the second set as well, the Little Lions got themselves a lead at 8-6. Before the Mountain Lions could mount a come-back, the Little Lions extended their advantage by taking the lead to 17-7. It was only a matter of time
before the State College sealed the deal on the second set by securing a 25-15 win.
The third and final set of the match started and ended on the same note as its predecessors with the Little Lions winning it 25-17.
Coach Kim-Li Kimel of the Little Lions expressed his appreciation for his team and said, “This is the best they’ve played this season, hands down. All of our work this week has been about getting them to focus from start to finish, and we did that tonight.”
The district 6 champions will be celebrating tonight before they start on the post-season games.
