Amogh Gupta R, a budding player from India, proved his impressive skills and reached into Boy’s Singles U13 final after taming Rohith M in semi-final showdown at the Udupi 5 Star State Ranking Badminton Tournament on Tuesday, July 10, in India.
The spirited Amogh, who is the top seed in Men’s Singles draw of the event, played to his maximum speed and did not spare any chance for his rival to escape a comprehensive defeat in the semi-final battle.
It was a smooth ride for the higher ranked Amogh who was uncontrollable on court as he played on a different level and hammered his lower ranked opponent in straight sets with a huge difference on the board.
Rohith, on the other hand, failed to match the tempo of rallies and also lost his temperament by making many unforced errors. He lost to his higher ranked team-mate without putting up good show and crashed out at the top-four stage.
Amogh started his run in semi-final battle in a dominating and controlled manner as he played with aggression and precision which helped him to set up a tremendous lead on the score board until the end of first half.
After the break, the top seeded Amogh remained positive and also did not let the speed of rallies down at any stage. He was impressive in his shot selection and took the set with a one-sided margin of 21-10.
In the second game, Rohith also put up brilliant show of attacking and positive badminton as he became quick at net. He was close to his rival this time by playing positively until the one-minute break.
After the mid-game interval, both boys showed their aggression but Rohith failed to control the bird and started to execute negative shots.
In the meanwhile, Amogh remained positive and focused at the ending stage of second set. He played smart badminton without committing any error and wrapped up the set with a five-point advantage of 21-16.
