State Ranking Badminton Tournament Rahul Bhardhvaj B M beats Syed Saad Ali at semi-final stage
India’s emerging young player Rahul Bhardhvaj defied all odds to register a spectacular victory over his higher ranked challenger Syed Saad Ali at the Boy’s Singles U15 semi-final battle in Udupi 5 Star State Ranking Badminton Tournament in India, on Tuesday,
July 10.
The talented Rahul, who is un-seeded in the tournament, displayed a wonderful show of aggressive badminton on court and remained successful in creating the biggest upset of the event by ending up the winning run of the top seeded Syed Saad.
The underdog Rahul was not in good rhythm in opening game and he lost it easily. However, he showed his impressive class on court and grabbed the following both sets to stamp his mark over his higher ranked opponent.
On the other hand, the top seeded Syed Saad played remarkable game in first set but could not get rid of his rival in following sets and eventually knelt down in three games with a decent score on the board.
In the opening game, Syed Saad was just uncontrollable as he played at his best and did not let his lower ranked opponent to even put up a meagre resistance. He took a startling lead until the one-minute break.
After the interval, Rahul work extra hard to narrow the huge gap but failed to stop his rival’s tremendous run and lost the set to him with a one-sided score of 8-21.
In the second game, Rahul showed his class by playing different badminton as he took the bird early and kept the rallies fast. Until the one-minute break, he was the leader on the score board.
After the interval, Rahul continued his elevated play without letting his rival to dominate the pace of rallies at any stage. He was quite comfortable on court and easily wrapped up the set with a one-sided score of 21-12.
In the decider, both shuttlers played tremendous badminton and remained close until the one-minute interval.
After the break, they continued playing positive but it was Rahul who took over the control from his rival and remained successful in taking the set with a 21-18 score on the board.
Rahul ousted the top seed in three games with an entertaining score of 8-21, 21-12 and 21-18.
