State Ranking Badminton Tournament: Rahul Bhardhvaj claims Boys Singles Under-15 crown
The young but spirited shuttler Rahul Bhardhvaj B M proved his class in Boy’s Singles Under-15 category and emerged as Champion in Udupi 5 Star State Ranking Badminton Tournament on July 11, 2012.
He overpowered compatriot shuttler Mithun Manjunath in the final round by putting concluding figures of 21-12, 19-21 and 21-16.
This 55-minute title match was played at local badminton club of Udupi, India and both youngsters entertained the audience with a superb show of skills.
The victorious shuttler laid foundation of his victory in first set and sealed 2-1 win in the last one while the opposing shuttler could only rise in the second set of the match.
In opening segment of the show, Rahul looked in prime touch as he clinched first match point with a huge difference in final result.
He dictated his rival all the way to last moments and gained a psychological advantage in start of the battle.
Meanwhile, Mithun made every effort to stand tall but he could not withstand the strong invasion of his challenger and surrendered after a futile exercise of 12-21.
However, this splendid knock did not help Rahul in the following game as he knelt down in crucial moments.
In the first half, he was enjoying an upper hand until 8-4 total but then his competitor launched an effective counter attack strategy and caught him at 8-8 score position.
Both contenders snapped at each other’s heels in next couple of rallies and finished the first half with a tight margin of 11-10.
Later part of the game turned to a neck-and-neck contest as they strived hard to achieve their respective goals.
Though, Mithun raised his total to 16-13 in third quarter of the set but Rahul counter-balanced the situation with 16-16.
Finally, this race ended when Mithun bagged ending two points to place a winning figure of 21-19.
The decider remained interesting until mid-game break as the finalists put all in their possession to oust the opponent. However, Rahul Bhardhvaj stepped forward and locked the honour.
He bagged the first half with 11-10 and then gathered 10 out of last 16 points of 21-16 margin to claim the trophy in the home event.
