State of Iowa approves gambling bill – Horseracing news
The State of Iowa has shown some improvement in uplifting its horse racing industry by getting a bill approved. The bill is related to gambling and it was approved just recently.
The Iowa Senate Ways and Means Committee is the authority responsible of giving the approval. However, the bill that just got the go ahead of making gambling legal is not what it was initially. A lot of changes have been made to it to make it more suited
to the taste of the community of Iowa.
A major change that the bill has experienced is to omit the clause of making legal internet poker. However, it has been blotted out of the picture completely and there is a chance that internet poker may be seen to make its way into the legal stream.
Rather than giving internet poker a complete no, the Committee has given a positive signal to a bill that will now make its way to the Senate. According to the approval of the Committee, a detailed report would have to be provided by the Racing and Gaming
Commission which they would present to the Iowa Legislature.
The time duration that the Committee has to gather all the necessary information and make a report out of it is December 1. The report would be dealing with all the pros and cons of internet poker and what should be the framework of regulation that the state
should install in order to make intrastate internet poker practical.
If the required work is done, than it would give the lawmakers and the proponents of internet poker the opportunity to debate in the issue next year and possibly make it a reality.
According to the gambling bill that has just been approved, people would have the opportunity to place online as well as telephonic bets. In doing so, they will have the facility to deposit their cash prior to the commencement of the particular live horse
racing event.
The horse owners of the state of Iowa would also be benefitting from the bill as they would get a two percent share in the purse money in all thoroughbred and quarter horse racing events in Iowa.
