State one advantage of using DALYs as opposed to mortality to measure the burden of disease in populations?

  1. Using Disability adjusted life years (DALY) gives a slightly better picture of the cost of disease.  An infant death and an elerly death from the same disease are 2 deaths, but the infant loses a vastly larger portion of life than the elder.  Measured in years, the total could easily exceed 100 years.
