State pension back payment for women ?

I live in the UK and at the end of last year I read an article in one of the daily papers regarding back payment for women who left work to have children and now like myself have poor state pensions. Can anyone cast any more light on this or maybe let me know how I can find out more myself ?

Go to www.gov.uk/pensions.

You get a certain number of years allocated to women for being out of the work place while raising children. The allowance is not transferable to men so is sexist, however this may be what is being talked about
