Question:

State policies regarding crystal meth?

I'm researching methamphetamines for a class I'm doing. For the most part I've found most of the info I need. But what I could really use some help on (because I don't have time to research all 50 states) is even just some information regarding state policies and how they deal with meth offenders.

Also I live in Colorado and already know the laws here. But any other state, or local juristiction would be nice. And for that matter if you know what they do in different countries altogether that would help too.

Any answers would be greatly appriciated, thanks in advanced.

  1. In Illinois, and most other states, the policies would be up to the local states attorney (DA). They are the chief law enforcement officer for their county. For example, rural counties are being hit hard by meth and its manufacture, the taking down of a lab can cost more than the counties budget. I'm sure those county states attorneys have a policy of full prosecution of meth offenders. In the more populated areas like Cook County the states attorney's office likely works harder on murders.

If your talking about the laws they are passed by the state legislature, they are laws not policies. They try to impart their intent to the courts but that is always open to interpretation.  In Illinois meth possession or manufacture is the same as any other controlled substance, a felony. The level of the felony differs as to the amount and the type of possession, to distribute or not.
