1.  Raw Materials:  carbon dioxide, water

     Conditions:  Suitable temperature, adequate sunlight

     End Products:  PGAL and ATP which can be used to form glucose and any other carbohydrate needed for the plant, lipids, proteins, nucleic acids.

2.  Boil leaf briefly, decolorize in denatured alcohol or acetone, saturate the leaf with Lugol's solution (iodine solution).  If the leaf turns black, starch is present.  If leaf retains the color of the iodine solution, starch is absent.
