  1. All types of soil can have crops grow in them.

  2. Sandy soil: 60% sand, 15% clay and 25% silt,

easy to cultivate, warms up quickly, drains well, has to be watered and fertilized.

Potatos, carrots, strawberries, asparagus, rye e.g.

    Silty soil:

richer in nutrients than sandy soil, heavier, can retain moisture but tends to drain well.

    Often used as pasture land.

Silt, deposited by annual floods along the Nile River, created the rich and fertile soil that sustained the ancient Egyptian civilization, best known for high quality wheat.

    Clay Soil.

usually acidic, badly drained, needs fertilizer to grow crop.

Some ornamental flowers, Hosta, Azalea or Rhododendron f.e. like it.

Loamy Soil: equal parts sand, clay, and silt; fertile soil, almost any  crop can be grown.

    Chalk Soil.

alkaline, fertility depends on depth of soil over chalk bed; if topsoil is thin, ground is poor.

Some sorts of Vinum prefer this sort of soil but need fertilizer.

Here a list of plants liking chalky soil:

    Peaty Soil:

excessive quantities of humus, a lot of water, few nutrients.

The different types of soil often mix. Therefore you can check amount or percentage of each element in this graphics:
