  1. My friend, the site in questions incorrect. The Staten Island Ferry is a commuter ferry that travels between Staten Island and Manhattan.

The Circle Line, however, is a tourist ferry that take tourist to both the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. The Circle Line also does guide tours around Manhattan.

    Good luck

  2. The Staten Island ferry is a 25 minute ride between Manhattan and Staten Island only.  It is free, and boats leave 24/7, although late at night only 1 per hour.  It is owned and run by the City.

Circle Line is a ride around Manhattan with no stops.  It is a couple hours, a tour guide lectures except for a break while passing Harlem, and is privately owned.

To get to the Statue of Liberty you must take a boat licensed by the US Department of the Interior (it being a national monument).  The same boat also stops at Ellis Island.  You may get out and explore at each or both and take a later boat at no extra charge.  This boat will not, however, get you to Staten Island.  Its route is strictly Manhattan--Ellis--Statue--Manhattan.

  3. Monument Access" is available at no cost from the ferry company with the purchase of a ferry ticket using the Reserved Ticket AND selecting the Monument Access option. During summer months and holiday periods you may consider ordering your tickets in advance and request a time pass by calling the ferry company at: 1-877-LADY-TIX or on-line at: www.statuecruises.com

We got to the island and found out we could not get tickets for the next 2 days.  Needless to say we were disappointed. If you can reserve ahead then you will get there.

  4. The Staten island ferry sails between South Ferry in Manhattan and Fort George, Staten Island.  Although it sails close by the Statue of Liberty there is no access to the island from this free boat ride.  The Circle Line has several tours of the harbor and environs, including its namesake trip that encircles Manhattan.  The cost for the Statue of Liberty ferry is $12 per adult.

  5. No, the staten island ferry gets you reasonably close to the statue, but you don't get to walk on the island itself.

It is a 25 min ride directly to staten island, no other stops.
