Stationary Bike V.S. Running?

what are the differences and similarities between the bike and running? I want to know everything you can tell me: muscle functions, how many miles on a bike equals 1 mile running, just everything you can tell me. thanks

  1. It all depends on your condition; are you knees blown out?  do you have rough joints, etc?  Running is the fastest way to get in shape while cycling is a great way to get in shape without the pounding of the knees.  I worked several bike shops for several years and I can't tell you how many customers I have sold bikes to who have been runners their whole lives and had to start biking because their knees are worn out.  A mixture of running and cycling is optimum in my oppinion.  I prefer riding a real bike as opposed to a stationary one.  If you can find riding buddies, go do it and enjoy it!  That's how many get started road biking and mountain biking; because of their friends.


  2. nothing compares to running... unless you're training to be a biker then you should do real bikes.  But if you want to get in shape you should run b/c put more stress on different muscles.  But if u cant run outdoors try a treadmill
