Statistical Analysis of Premier League – Part 2
Some interesting stats about the remaining 10 Premier League teams are covered here in part 2.
Manchester City
City will end up winning a game if they lead it at half time. None of City’s 24 league goals have come via a header. The number of shots on goal taken by City is equal to that of relegation destined Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Manchester United
Six of Manchester United’s 36 league goals have been scored in the last 5 minutes of the first half this season.
United made more tackles than Arsenal on Monday night (25-20) and committed less fouls than their opponents (9-17).
THE BIG ONE: Wayne Rooney has not scored a goal from open play in his last 20 hours of football.
Newcastle United
Newcastle United had three shots on target against Liverpool, which they converted.
Cheikh Tiote has now picked up seven yellow cards from his last nine Premier League matches.
Andy Carroll is the most in form player in the league, as he has either assisted or scored a goal himself in nine out of his last 10 league matches.
Stoke City
Stoke City have now played 93 premier league matches, and have failed to dominate possession even once.
They have led at half time only once in their 17 league games this season. The Potters hit the wood-work three times against Blackpool on Saturday. They also had another 12 shots off target.
Sunderland
Sunderland have the second lowest number of shots on goal this season. Their first and only shot against Fulham came in the stoppage time from Ghanaian striker Asamoah Gyan.
Since 2007, Sunderland have managed to win only eight times away from home in the Premier League.
Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham have thrown away eight points from winning positions this season. They drew games against West Brom, Sunderland, Birmingham City and then Chelsea last weekend, having in a winning position.
Tottenham had 38% of the ball against Chelsea at home, and their only shot on target found the back of the net.
Jermaine Defoe passed the ball only six times in 60 minutes, and all of them were accurate, with one being an assist.
West Brom
Chris Brunt has 10 assists to his name already this season. It has been nearly 14 months since a game involving West Brom ended nil-nil. They have scored more than 70 percent of their goals in the second half this season.
West Ham United
West Ham have a shocking record against top half oppositions. They have picked up only four points in their 10 games against them this season.
On Saturday, West Ham managed 12 shots off target against Manchester City. As a premier league manager, Avram Grant has a record of seven wins from his last 42 games.
Wigan Athletic
Wigan had their first attempt on goal in the 72nd minute at Goodison Park on Saturday.
Tom Cleverly had a bizarre 45 percent pass completion rate during the first half, after which he was substituted.
Hugo Rodallega scores a goal every 10 shots. This season he has managed four from 40 shots on goal. This excludes blocked attempts.
Wolverhampton Wanderers
Wolves’ clean sheet against Birmingham at the weekend was their first in 20 league matches.
Their form is improving and the points they have gained from last eight games would have put them safely into 14th spot.
Wolves have won both games in which star striker Kevin Doyle has not started.
