  1. I am not aware of any official figures, however since the release of the likes of the Wubi installer http://wubi-installer.org/  many more people are quite happy using Linux alongside Windows. Its unfortunate that this feature at present is only offered for Ubuntu. Hopefully in time there will be a Wubi like installer for other distros.

To return to your original question I think it would be more interesting to know the statistics of people who try Linux and not go back to Microsoft. I somehow think the numbers would be surprisingly healthy.

    LUg.

  2. I do not have a link to propose, but such  a statistic (if one existed anyway) would be inaccurate.

My counter question is : Based on what official stats would anyone create such a report?

Come to think about it, I do have a link : www.microsoft.com.

Its for real i am telling you!

    Gates, Balmer and Co.

I bet they have downloaded at least Ubuntu, Mandriva and Suse Linux, used them, got a few ideas about how a real OS shoudl be handling things and then run to implement the OSS ideas into Windoz.
