Status of EAD once i leave the country for a short term.?

I have an L2 visa and EAD. My EAD is getting expired on Feb 2009. I am planing a visit to india on Jan 2009. Will my EAD still be valid. Can i apply for renew after i come back to india on Feb 2009. Any kind of feedback will be of great help.

  1. I don't think they will assume you are dead if you leave.


  2. You are supposed to renew the EAD 3-6 months before it expires.

    Also I don't think you can travel with an EAD. You have to have a ravel documents.

  3. Well, of course you have a visa, the L2, so I'm assuming that will still be good upon return. Can you renew your EAD upon return. I suppose so, I don't know why not. But, is that a good idea? No, not really. USCIS takes a while to open its  mail and take whatever action is required under the best of circumstances. Sometimes, a very long time. So, what do you gain by waiting until you return? Nothing I can see and probably you will wind up being unable to work for some period of time if you do things this way. Why would you want to risk that?

  4. You better apply to renew EAD 4 months prior to your current EAD expiration date to work continuously without interruption. These days everything is backlogged at USCIS processing any applications.
