Status with Dolphins unclear as Jeff Fisher explores option with Rams – NFL News
Things are still not clear if the Miami Dolphins will be definitely pursuing Jeff Fisher for their head coach post or will Fisher who earlier on left South Florida after an interview impressing the Dolphins’ owner Steve Ross do
the same.
Much confusion prevails on part of different news that has been circulating all along. There is no doubt that Ross seems intent on hiring Fisher but is now probably considering other options after Fisher preferred to view other
options too such as a job with the St. Louis Rams. Fisher has had already made clear that he intends to view other options available to him and that probably now has the Dolphins looking for alternatives.
Of all the options available to Fisher, the two most imminent ones seem to be either the Rams or the Dolphins. After the interview with Ross, Fisher would be meeting the Rams owner Stan Kroenke. The Chief Operations Officer of
the Rams Kevin Demoff will also be meeting him and the important thing about that is Demoff is the son of Fisher’s agent Marvin Demoff. So chances of Fisher landing with the Rams cannot be ruled out, even though apparently the opportunity with the Dolphins
seems to be much better suited to Fisher.
Fisher is the former coach of Tennessee and remained one of the highly paid coaches in the league. His last assignment drew in a salary of $6 million a year. And that will likely be the figure that Ross would have to fish out in
order to gain the services of Fisher.
However, there seems to be more what Fisher could be demanding. And that would certainly be being allowed a say in team’s decisions. That would surely draw in a confrontation with the Dolphins’ general manager Jeff Ireland who
currently makes the final decision for the team. Nevertheless, the option with the Dolphins seems to be the best for Fisher.
In the meantime, the Dolphins too have taken to look for alternatives. One such alternative is the Chicago Bears special teams coach Dave Toub. Toub has been serving the Bears team for eight years and is considered one of the best
coordinators in the league under whom the Bears have had their units ranked as one of the top in NFL. One more option has been the interim coach Todd Bowles who won two of three games he coached.
It will take time to clear things as they look pretty vague at the moment. The Dolphins owner may be ready to take out a lot of money like he has in the past but still Fisher’s demanding more say in the team’s matter may turn out
to be an obstacle.
