  1. Section 165 of the Companies Act, 1956 governs the provisions relating to Statutory Meeting.

    In brief, as per the section - out of the four types of companies you mentioned in your question:

    1. a private company is exempt to hold a statutory meeting under sub-section 10 of the Section 165 of the Act.

    2. In India we don't have Chartered Companies, so their relation is out of context here.

    3. For Public Limited Companies and Foreign Companies, statutory meeting does relate to them if they are limited by shares or limited by guarantee and having a share capital.

    In casual reference, we tend to relate Statutory Meeting with a Public Limited Company but the technicals involve do make the difference - atleast for a professional!!
