Are you asking why we don`t focus on just the candidate, instead of the candidate and party together against the opposition?

If this is what you are asking, then I am glad to tell you there are people like that, I`m one of them. I consider myself a centrist, which means I`m right smack in the middle of it all. No allegiance either way. I could consider myself an independent as well, but lean conservative for the most part. I`ve taken hits from both sides, but so what, I`m an independent thinker.
