  1. Stawell is closer to Halls Gap, the main town in the Grampians. it's about a 20 minute drive into Halls Gap from Stawell BUT there are a lot of wildlife on the roads at night.

There are some good, cheap hotel/motels in Stawell. The pubs are loud, all on the Highway, think loud trucks ALL THROUGH THE NIGHT, but are cheap.

Horsham, my home town, is a 40 minute drive into the heart of the Grampians and the best rides.

Horsham has many good hotels and pubs that are really decent and quiet.

So two chooses. Stay in Stawell. Be close to the branching out point of the park/mountains. Or Horsham for a good rest and more sociable, friendly folk. But a longer drive. But get into the real good riding roads straight away.

    Hope this helps.

    Have a great ride.

I am taking my son up there on my bike when it get's a good service. We will be staying at the caravan park in Halls Gap as e always do.

That's another option for you. Cheap cabins right in the Grampians.
