Stay Thirsty and Uncle Mo come fine out of the races to get pointed towards new ones again
Todd Plecther’s duo Stay Thirsty and Uncle Mo have made their much anticipated starts, with Stay Thirsty going on to be triumphant in the Grade 1 Travers Stakes at Saratoga and Uncle Mo was narrowly beaten in the Grade 1 King’s Bishop Stakes on his return
to the races.
The 3-year-old Bernardini colt after winning the Travers Stakes on 27 August will most likely be pointed towards the Grade 1 Jockey Club Gold Cup on 1 October, 2011 at Belmont Park.
Uncle Mo after his satisfying return to the races will also have a couple of races to go through before he goes on to participate in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Classic, the 3-year-olds ultimate goal.
The son of Indian Charlie could go on to make his next start in the Grade 2 Kelso Handicap 1 October, 2011 at Belmont Park or he could be entered in the Grade 2 Pennsylvania Derby on 24 September at Parx.
Todd Pletcher revealed on 29 August that he has had quite a few conversations with owner Mike Repole regarding the immediate future of the colts, but nothing is concrete yet.
Stay Thirsty most probably will go to the Jockey Gold Cup, and the Pennsylvania Derby for Uncle Mo is week earlier for the 3-year-old colts.
After Uncle Mo’s spirited run in the Grade 1 King’s Bishop Stakes, he couldn’t match up those final strides with Caleb’s Posse who narrowly edged away to win the race.
Valiant in defeat, in his defense he was coming off a long layoff and straight away finished second in a tough race.
However, his connections Breeders’ Cup aspirations are still high and they want him to run another race before the big Churchill Downs feature race in November, and it either could be Grade 2 Kelso or the Pennsylvania Derby.
Kelso is obviously at a mile and Uncle Mo would be running over a distance of 1 ¼ miles which would not train his for the Breeders’ Cup but they have to stretch him out before the big race comes too soon.
