Stay Thirsty can bring his experience at Saratoga in play when he runs in the Grade 1 Travers Stakes.
Nine 3-year-olds are probable for the Grade 1 $1million Travers Stakes at Saratoga race course on 27 August, 2011. Only one out of these 9 horses has proven himself on the Saratoga race course, the Todd Pletcher trained colt, Stay Thirsty.
The Grade 1 Belmont Stakes' runner-up to Ruler on Ice and the Grade 2 Jim Dandy Stakes' winner, Stay Thirsty, has gone on to win twice out of his three starts at Saratoga.
His affinity with the Saratoga race course started when he was sent to Belmont Park for the maiden stakes over a distance of 5 ½ furlongs, where he was unable to break his maiden and later get his career moving on 15 July, 2010.
Change of track did the Travers' winning son of Bernardini a world of good as he excelled at Saratoga and broke his maiden for his owner, Mike Repole, and trainer, Todd Pletcher, in fine style over a distance of six furlongs, beating Washington’s Rules by
a massive 5 ½ lengths to register a maiden victory on 14 August, 2010, in a time of 1 minute and 11.01 seconds.
His second start at Saratoga was the Grade 2 Hopeful Stakes, where he was competing against the likes of Wine Police and Boys at Tosconova.
With the distance gone over a furlong, Stay Thirsty competed at seven furlongs for the first time.
The colt ran a wonderful race but fell just short of Boys at Tosconova to finish second in the Grade 2 event on 6 September, 2010, with the final race time of 1 minute and 23.27 seconds.
Stay Thirsty came back to Saratoga almost a year later to participate in the Grade 2 Jim Dandy Stakes. Favoured after his brave performance in the Grade 1 Belmont Stakes, where he was up against Animal Kingdom and Shackleford, Stay Thirsty got in the limelight.
Stay Thirsty came out of the Jim Dandy victorious, defeating Moonshine Mullin and Dominus, finishing in 1 minute and 48.78 seconds on 30 July, 2011.
The Kentucky bred colt feels at home when he runs at Saratoga, and despite the Travers Stakes' tough competition, Stay Thirsty can bring his experience into play again in the competition at his familiar turf.
