I have been a stay at home mom for 8 years. My youngest just started Kindergarten yesterday. Anyone else like me? What do you plan to do know? Go to work? Everybody keeps asking me if I am going to go back to work, I really don't want to, but I am afraid this is going to get boring.

  1. My oldest is in 4th grade and my youngest is in 1st grade. I never plan on going back to work. I do the cleaning, laundry, grocery shopping, and errands while my kids are at school. Then it's sports and other activities at night with them. My husband works enough that he is not home much. My kids need me a nd I will never go back to work. I also help out at the school a lot.

  2. I've been a stay home mom for many years. My youngest charge is now in 5th grade. I have so much to do here I can't imagine 'working'. I clean house, bake, cook, do laundry, take care of dogs, run errands, tend to garden, go shopping, go to bank, I do my own canning & freezing, dry my own herbs......I also make my own laundry detergent and other cleaning supplies, I make and sell handmade soaps via the internet which means that takes up a chunk of time. I volunteer at the food pantry. Run kids here and there. Dogs to groomer/vet. Help with extended family. I can't imagine EVER being bored! ;)

  3. I work from home. This still gives me the freedom to go and eat with my children at school, attend school functions, go on field trips, etc.

I am also a full time college student with a year left. There is always something to do.

You can even volunteer at your child's school to build a network with other moms.

So it doesn't have to be boring!

  4. I've been a SAHM for 14 years and both of mine are in high school.

I keep my house clean, cook for them and my husband who works a lot (homemade breads and sweets, fresh pasta with my own ravioli filling, pierogies. etc).

I knit, crochet, do cross stitch (I sell items or donate them to children's hospitals and homeless shelters), I spend time with my elderly Grandmother because everyone else in my family is too busy to and she gets lonely.

I spend time on the computer, babysit, when my kids were younger I volunteered for after-school programs.

If you're not crafty or into cooking like I am, lol. then ask the teachers at your children's school if they're looking for extra hands in the classroom.  The teachers here always are and they're thrilled when parents show up to help out.  They might need you in your child's class but sometimes they'll have you help a kid from another grade who might be behind in learning with their reading.  Kids need to practise reading out loud and a lot of parents aren't interested in helping their kids out, or are too busy because they're working.

If you have the opportunity to "stay home", it would be awesome if you did...and helped other kids who's parents don't have that option.

  5. Why dont you want to go to work? Are you scared of change or new things?

And why should you have to go to work?

Its your choice. its not like your children are all grown up and can look after themselves.

I have a daughter who is 2 years old and I cant wait to get back to full time work. I work part time at the moment. And i have been doing a degree part time.  But everyone is different.

If you are happy beig a house wife then stay a house wife. If you think it might get boring then maybe start studying something, give yourself a sense ofachievement if you havent done so already. Or, maybe get your hands into a part time job or activity,

Maybe look at helping at the school if you want?

Every one wants different things from life. My mum was a stay at home mum and still is even though we are all grown up , the youngest being 16. My dad goes to work, she doesnt.

If you are single, then you may want to look into other options so that when they are teens you have money aside. Then again im not presuming that you do or dont have money. But yea you may bet bored. You can do a course or something. Or a hobby.

    Enjoy

  6. I have been a stay at home mom for 9 years now and I HATE when people ask me "when are you going back to work" lol...as if they think my family is strange because I dont work. Anyway, I have no intention of starting back to work any time soon ( a family decision) I did decide to start volunteering at my sons school as a room mother which I absolutely love! Maybe you could try something like that a few times a week. My sister is a SAHM and she substitute teaches sometimes too...you dont need any kind of degree to be a substitute, just a background check ( at least where I live) and she loves it and is able to make some extra cash too.

  7. i will get a small part time job, just while the kids are at school, I need the money!

  8. your best bet is probly to work at an easy clean part time job like star bucks or if you really dont need to and your funds aare doing well you can hang out with old friens or take your folks out to lunch every once in a while!

  9. All three of my kids are in school full time, but I am going to remain a stay at home mom.  My husband makes enough money that we are lucky enough to afford for me to and I enjoy being here to do what needs to be done for my family more then I could enjoy any job.

Plus I like to be free to volunteer in the classroom and for field trips without worrying about it conflicting with my work schedule.

  10. Enjoy quality time with my toddler! He kind of gets mixed up in the chaos so loves it when it's just me and him. Oh and get housework done in one go rather than being stopped every 5 minutes lol!!

  11. I'm sorry, but for all the stay-at-home moms with kids in school full time you should go out and either work p-t or at the very least volunteer at your kid's school everyday.  Seriously, how much cleaning, laundry and errand running must you do everyday all day long?  Yes, I too would wonder why a mom still stays home when their kids are in school from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

  12. stay at home grrrrrr
