Hi there,

Thanks for your time.

I am 21 and have been a stay at home wife and then Mom (1 year later) since I was 17 and I did running start my senior year of high school...but have been off the past four years. I want to go back and finish and go furthur such as to get my bachelor and teaching certificate, but it is so spendy. I'm curious if there are grants or programs that help stay at home mom's to accomplish these types of goals? Any realistic answer is appreciated!

Thanks!

  1. First off you should look into filling out a fafsa application on-line at fafsa.ed.gov - they will give you a maximum of $4,700 for your school year which helps a lot.

Like you I've been a stay at home mom/wife for almost 3 years and I'm going back to school to be a teacher, we make about $25k a year (adjusted gross income) with my husband working and I'm getting $3,700 for this school year. Its not much but it helps pay for all my community college expenses with a little left over to help out at home.

My suggestions are find a community college to get your general ed courses out of the way and to help lessen the costs of schooling then transfer to a University or State school for your Bachelors.

    Good luck!

  2. Nothing to it.

go fill out your fasfa here: http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/

This will be automatically sent to your school. Call your schools financial aid office a couple of days later and check with them. They'll want you to fill out one or two more 1page forms. Print them out, fill them out, fax them back. I got awarded about a week later. Good Luck, the world needs more smart people

  3. I'm sorry to tell you this, but most mother scholarships are available only to SINGLE moms. There are some that are available to any moms but you would end up competing against many single moms who get more sympathy. It's really sad that so many corporations are trying to support unmarried mothers but no one is trying to support the American family.

You could consider an online school that would be cheap but would restrict your employment options.
