I know a lot of people who are stay at home mom's that make an income online as well as off line.  Question is how much income do you want to be making?  Are you looking for minimum wage earnings, which this is what you will receive with online jobs.  Or are you looking for a sufficient amount of income, which is what you can receive in online businesses.  So you need to figure out what type of income you would like to be making in determining what type of online work you would like to get involved in.

In your detailed message on how to be sure if something is a scam or not.  I know a yahoo blog that you can go to and gather a lot of information on different things on what to look for and things to check out that will help you determine if a company is a scam or not.  Also the yahoo blog I came across has a list of several different industries that you can do business with either online or off line.  So both of your questions I feel can be helped here.
