Staying at the Grand Palladium Jamaica, Montego Bay... opinion??

I'm staying at the Grand Palladium Jamaica in Montego Bay in April 2009. It will be my third all inclusive vacation, and have only stayed at Riu Resorts before. What are your opinions on this place and how does it compare to Riu Resorts, if you are familiar? I LOVE Riu but thought I'd try something else this time. Thanks!

  1. you need to check out the jamaica forum on tripadvisor. There are many threads right now about the GP. Some good, some bad.

  2. Looking for chance of lottary for winning

  3. The GP Lady Hamilton and GP Jamaica resorts are located in Lucea, Hanover. Its not a resort town but a fishing village however the location is ideal as one can enjoy short rides to Negril or Montego Bay for shopping, excursions etc if you so desire. If you prefer a more vibrant night life for the city/town you are visit you wont find it here but again traveling to Mo Bay or Negril is quick and easy (via taxi) and the resort keeps guests very entertained. Theirs also a mini club on the property.

The GPs rooms are larger, it has a much larger main pool (with inbuilt loungers) than any of the Rius, more specialty restaurants (six) and bars, bathrobes and slippers, flat screen tvs, mini-fridges and whirlpool tubs (large enough for two adults) as well as stand alone showers in every room. Keep in mind that the resort is HUGE (two resorts on one property over 850 suites) but golf carts carry you around. The GP has a spa and an open air theatre with live entertainment at night. The main beach is smaller than the average Jamaican AI Beach but the pool makes up for it.

Unlike Riu the GP has no elevators for their 3-story buildings. The decor of both resorts (main areas not rooms) are similar but the GPs are architecture and style of the villas plantation-esque in pastel colours. Its been said that once you visit one Riu (Jamaica) you visit them all. The GP does not use Red Stripe Beer Resort wide only in the Jamaican Restaurant, they use Real Rock beer (a local brand) and Corona is only available in the Mexican Restaurant. The view from the lobby is AWEsome.

At the end of construction phase two which is scheduled for April 2009 the resort will boast the Grand Palladium Royal Suites which include Swim Up rooms and VIP service and special amenities. Also on the Lady Hamilton side their are the honeymoon suites/adults only cottages which have an outside shower.

  4. I believe the resort is in Lucea and not Montego Bay.

The Spanish hotel chains are pretty similar. I do not know of many people who have experienced Grand Pal. but fiesta resorts are widely appreciated so go for it!
