two 19 year old girls....we would like to shop around on melrose/robertson/the grove during the daytime, and be close to a populated area/restaurants at nighttime. i was told this cheap motel would be an okay spot for our plans, since it is located near sunset blvd (and since we wont have a car, and do not want to spend a lot of $)

thoughts?

  1. Public Transportation in LA is horrible. You need to rent a car!

The buses are dirty & nasty.  Cabs are not too bad, but after all the $ for a  cab you could have rented a small car.

Yes the hotel is probably OK since there is a lot to do on Sunset in the evenings & around that area & you are not too far from the Grove & Melrose.

  2. You can walk to Melrose from there (make a right on Melrose from LaCienega for Urth Cafe and small shops, and make a left onto Melrose for high end boutiques and luxury brands - Marc Jacobs, etc).  From the hotel, you can walk up to Sunset, BUT your feet will kill you if you're wearing heels (maybe call a cab to drop you off?).  You can walk to the Grove, but it's exercise for sure. Beverly Center is closer.  You can also walk up and down Santa Monica Blvd, which is fun people watching (it's home for LA's g*y men).  It's a pretty good location, but the hotel will be sort of dumpy.  There are lots of restaurants and clubs on LaCienega between Santa Monica and Melrose so hit those as well.

  3. Some of the cheap motels especially near Sunset in West Hollywood can be pretty bad. Research it out.
