Staying away from the Manchester derby - Fantasy Premier League: Gameweek 9 – Picks
After taking a look at the goal keeper position for the upcoming weekend and offering Fantasy Premier League managers advice on who to pick and who to stay away from for the upcoming weekend of Barclays Premier League action, it is time now to turn our attention towards the defenders.
Defenders
We at Bettor.com prefer to keep defenders to a minimum, which is a back three as opposed to a back four. The reason being, that clean sheets do not get as many points as goals scored and the defenders have a tendency to get yellow cards and other point deductions on a regular basis.
However, the defenders that should be on everyone’s wish list should be wingbacks or attacked minded centre halves. Not only do they benefit from clean sheets but they also have the advantage of earning points for goals and assists.
Swansea take on Wolves at the weekend and the away side have managed to get together a formidable defence, while Wolves find themselves struggling in front of goal. * Williams is an option for managers who are looking to free up some funds for transfers as the Swansea defender cost only 4.6-million.
Liverpool left-back, Jose Enrique is a favourite when it comes to picking defenders, mostly because of his drive to get forward. Whether or not the Spaniard manages to keep a clean sheet or not, he makes up for it with an assist.
Going through team sheets for the Arsenal versus Stoke City match, no one springs to mind as a proven point scorer.
One match we would not be so bold and make a prediction for is the Manchester derby. Unpredictable in nature with no solid facts or trends, one might as well do a lottery to see which players they should have in their sides.
Having said that Patrice Evra and Micah Richards are the best options if one is hoping to cash in on the match.
Tottenham Hotspur face off against Blackburn Rovers, so managers can go ahead and pick more than one Spurs defender as we can see nothing other than a Tottenham win with a clean sheet to boot against the appalling Rovers side.
Another team brimming with defensive point scoring talent is Chelsea, with John Terry, David Luiz and Ashley Cole the main threats.
With a keeper like Petr Cech and the tactics of manager Andrea Villas Boas, a clean sheet seems a near certainty.
Our Picks:
1. John Terry – Queens Park Rangers versus Chelsea – 7.4-million
2. David Luiz – Swansea versus Chelsea – 6.4-million
3. Jose Enrique – Liverpool versus Norwich – 5.1-million
4. Kyle Walker – Blackburn Rovers versus Tottenham Hotspur – 5.4-million
While the Chelsea players seem the safest bet of emerging from the weekend with a clean sheet, they are on the expensive side if one looks at it objectively.
Jose Enrique and Kyle Walker are both dynamic with the latter possessing raw pace, which will is sure to trouble the Rovers back line. Not only that but they are fairly inexpensive as well and are both on a rich vein of form.
