  1. Hardly ever.  Under 4 days a year at the most on average.

  2. This year my son (2nd) has missed 4 days from when he had his tonsills out and sinus surgery........first days he has missed since starting school.

My 10 year old has missed once this year because of a stomach bug........she missed 5 weeks last year due to a medical issue and the school had a tutor come to the house for her.

My oldest is 15 and she has missed maybe 10 days of school in the 10 years she has been going.  But she says school is more fun than being at home!

  3. it depends which kid.  i have one kid in elementary school who is virtually never sick ... he's probably missed only 1 or 2 days of school for illness in his 2 years of elementary school.  i also have a daughter with severe asthma who's also had pneumonia twice, and she's probably missed several weeks of school in her four years at elementary.  my preschooler is always getting strep throat for some reason and because there's a rule you can't go if you've had a fever in the last 24 hours or have been on antibiotics for less than 24 hours, has probably missed 7 or 8 days of school this year (and she only goes to school three times a week).

if they're sick, they're sick.  i would never send a child with a fever or strep or throwing up or something to school.  but i would certainly send a kid with a sniffle or mild cough; otherwise most of my kids would pretty much have to be homeschooled....

  4. I have been blessed with pretty healthy kids. My daughter hasn't missed school all year and last year she missed one day because of a funeral. I encourage lots of hand washing and try to make sure she gets plenty of rest.  My kids also know that I won't let them stay home unless they are really ill.

  5. my kids have missed one day this year.  actually what happened was they were outside waiting for the bus and there puppy max was ran over right in front of them, at the time I didn't know I heard my daughter yell but I thought she was yelling at her brother.  So when they got on the bus I happened to look outside and see there dog "I was in tears"  anyway I went to the school and checked them out and my daughter spent the day crying in my arms.
