Soooo I would like to stay in a home in the Bahamas but I do not wish to be out in the middle of nowhere where there is no one. Are there villas in resorts? Or NICE gated communitys? I would like to stay away from the poverty. Links?? Thanks in advance! O and it would be nice if it could be on the water.?

  1. If you are going to Grand Bahama Island, there is the Xanadu Resort and it has villas. However, you are a good ways from most activities if you stay there but it is not in a poor area.

  2. The best place to do it is in Cable Beach.. find a realtor that can help you with that.. You will find lots of rental properties ( super expensive) plus that area has Casinos, hotels, beach, restaurants, grocery stores etc etc.. Good community to live in. Expensive but good.

  3. Hope Town in the Abacos is known as the "Hollywood" of the Bahamas.  There are many large houses on the water hear and $5000 would go a long way.  You can rent a pretty big house, with private pool, on the beach for like $3000.  If you would prefer to stay at a resort and have a private cottage there are those too.  Check out these websites.

www.visithopetown.com - info on the island

    www.elbowcayproperties.com - rental houses

www.hopetownlodge.com/ - hotel/small resort right on beach with cottages

Hope Town has great restaurants and bars and many things to do.  Right off the main beach there is great snorkeling.  The island  is very different from Nassau.  The island is small with all the amenities of a larger island.  There are always lots of people around and they are so nice and welcoming.  When you visit the rental house website, check out the map and you can see all the houses right on the water.  You will want a house on the right side of the island, as this is where the beach is and right on the Atlantic ocean.
