  1. Diddo on the water polo, its a great way to stay in shape without getting burnt out.

  2. If you are stateside, find a YMCA and get in with them.  Most times they have private swim teams and will be more than willing to gain another swimmer especially one that could do them some good in points.  Another route to take is to find a local college/university, talk to their swim coach and find out if it would be alright to practice with their team because you are going to be getting in with your varsity team this winter.  If all else fails just find a community pool with lane lines and kick  your own backside to get better.  Dry land exercises before swimming will definitely cut back on pool related injuries as well.  Push ups, crunches, flutter kicks, weight machines, NOT free weights, and at least a 1.5 mile run before swimming will get the heart rate up, and help with endurance in the pool.  Oh, slow shoulder presses on the weight machines, good idea...helps to prevent rotator cuff injury.  Any other questions feel free to ask

  3. If you can, join a summer league or "rec" swim team, or a USA year round team.  It'll help you stay in shape in the water.

There's usually some water polo conditioning camps, which is basically swim practice for most of these camps.

You can go swim laps at your gym or local high school/aquatic complex.

Running and weights are always good in addition to swim practice.  Did your swim team ever do dry land training?

Basically, anything that gets you moving is great for staying in shape. Remember, nothing can replace time in the pool.

Oh and reviewing technique helps when you're too tired to exercise

    best of luck,

  4. Quite a few neighborhoods and city pools have city teams and those are the perfect way to stay in shape for high school season. They are pretty much come as you please and they are actually challenging at the high school level. Club teams also sometimes have "summer groups". For example, mine has a senior summer group for high school kids to stay in shape, sounds perfect for you.

Out of the pool, running is good, crunches and push ups, and theraband exercises for shoulders. If you can't find a pool or team, yoga classes or Pilates are great!

    Good Luck!
