Stealcase ready to compete in the Haskell Invitational at Monmouth Park
Stealcase, who is under the wing of trainer Mark Casse, will be making his way to the Grade 1, $1 million Haskell Invitational which will be hosted at Monmouth Park on 28th July, 2012.
Covering a distance of 1 1/8 miles, the Haskell Invitational will be renewed for the 45th time this year.
Stealcase has been working hard for this race and, recently turned in a five furlong work-out on 22nd July, 2012, which he completed in 1 minute and 01.92 seconds.
“He breezed so well at Saratoga yesterday (five furlongs in 1:01.92) that afterward we decided we’ll be there.”
The son of Lawyer Ron, foaled by Cat Thief mare Steal The Show, only has two victories to his name but, came close to increasing that number a few times. The colt has an overall record of 2-1-1 and earnings of $117, 702.
The sophomore delivered a brilliant performance in the Grade 3 Derby Trial Stakes at Churchill Downs in April, 2012, where he didn’t win the race but, landed a commendable finish in third, behind Paynter.
Reflecting on this performance, the handler commented:
“He should have beaten Paynter that day.”
The trainer also commented on some of his previous performances, where he narrowly missed the victory and said:
“He lugged in (in the stretch) and right after the wire was ahead of Paynter. Next out, he won an allowance race at Churchill by four lengths. Last out (Matt Winn), he got into all kinds of trouble and still finished second. With the rough trip he
had, I don’t even know how he managed to get second.”
Other runners who are competing in the Haskell Invitational also put in strong work-outs in order to get in form.
Nonios, trained by Jerry Hollendorfer for owner, Green Smith, completed six furlongs impressively in 1 minute 15 seconds at Del Mar on 23rd July, 2012.
This race will be a true test of ability of the runners and with Hansen, Paynter and My Adonis competing, it’ll be a great racing spectacle.
