Stealing / Borrowing ?

Question

if you let someone borrow something and then they dont give it back to you is it stealing?

and could you call the cops for it?

Cops won't get involved since you loaned it to them.

Lesson Learned: Don't loan anything you want back.

well, technically speaking it's not "stealing" per se because stealing would be taking something that's yours without your knowledge.  it's not "borrowing" either because borrowing involves returning the item.  in your case, it's "taking" -- they just took it and kept it.  if you can prove that the item belongs to you and that it was not returned to you after you've repeatedly requested for its return, you can threaten to sue them.  if the item is less than $5,000, it's easiest to sue them in small claims court.

If you have proof that it is yours and know who took it, chances are the cops can help you out.  Get all your proof together before you call the cops so you don't waste either yours or their time.
