Steam cleaned my carpet, Water was filthy when i was done.. Should I clean it again?

I steam vac'ed / carpet shampoo'ed our upstairs carpet - its not that terribly old but its beige and it looks great after i cleaned it, however the dirty water i removed - well - it was absolutely filthy. I'm talking almost black, lol. It's been about a month since I did it, Should I keep doing this every few weeks until the water I bring up is much lighter in color? Or is it so dark because of the dirt AND maybe the rubbery stuff they put under carpets? I just want the carpet to be REALLY clean! And I also don't want to get it wet too often - dont want mold or anything, also dont want to ruin the carpet... Thanks guys!!

I would clean it 1 more time if you have kids if not it should be fine.

I'd probably wait for it to dry before re-steaming.  Don't drive yourself nuts, there will always be more dirt to come out of a carpet--not to mention extra dirt added over time.

Its really a matter of preference.  IF you feel its still unclean, have at it again.

I would keep doing it over and over til the water comes out a bit lighter, I cleaned my carpets SIX times and still the water comes out black! Then again this carpet has been here for a good 20 years (apt.).

be careful when u clean ur carpets. most conventional carpet cleaners do not try the carpet thoroughlly causing micro mold to grow which unless u have a carpet that has been treated by like dupont stainmaster more than likely its gonna go straight down to the pad which it will mold and start to smell awful. what i would do is get a product called chem dry if google chemdry u will understand the difference in the way it cleans versus other cleaners. it used oxygen to clean it is amazing i know, i have white carpet throughout my house and i have two boys.
