Steam generator on GPs?

Where were the steam generators located on first-generation GPs?

On the SP, the Jeeps and the SD9s had them in the high nose, next to the toilet.

On the older F and E units, they were at the rear of the car body.  Ditto for the GP40s.

The SDP45s had them at the rear of the engine, accessible through the side doors.

The good ol' Vapor-Clarkson.  Hated 'em with a purple passion while firing passenger.

First generation Gp 7s and GP 9s had the steam generation equipment housed in the short hood.  Most railways that ordered steam generators operated their 'Geeps' long-hood forward, reminiscent of steam locomotives.

Although there were some unusual applications carried out by some railroads, all GM products were laid out in similar fashion.  Less well known first/second generation road switchers such as the GMD-1 {originally ordered only by CNR and Northern Alberta Railway, now found in exotic locations like Cuba}, and export models such as the G 8 and G 12 followed suit, however all GMD-1s so equipped had steam generators removed, and very few if any export road switchers ever had them installed, though it was offered as a option by GM.
