The French veteran has agreed to sign a one-year extension on his contract that would keep the former Fulham player at the Stade Gerland till June, 2014.

The 32-year-old trained with Les Gones during his youth. The veteran had since then, moved to play with different clubs back in England including Fulham, Tottenham Hotspur and Sunderland before returning to Lyon. And now the player seems to be doing well,
and seems happy at Stade Gerland.
The former Fulham midfielder re-joined the Ligue 1 outfit last summer. Despite his current age, the midfielder still seems to perform well, and has earned himself a place in the starting line-up. Moreover, the player has become an essential component of
Remi Garde’s squad, and has been living up to the expectations of the coach.
The Belgium-born winger expressed his delight upon his return to his former club, and hoped that he can contribute positively to the team’s progress. The Frenchman said:
"I was very happy to come back to the Gerland. I came here with no special aim other than to bring some of my experience to the team regardless of where I play and to enjoy the season."
Furthermore, it’s not only the former Sunderland player who seems happy at his return, but also several other members, including club advisor, Bernard Lacombe, who feels as the player was meant to play for Lyon, who said:
“It's as if he never left Lyon."
The advisor believes that Malbranque’s move to England was not a bad idea, and he has gained valuable experiences from his adventures in the Premier League. Lacombe seems satisfied with the attacking midfielder, both on and off the field, he added:
"His success is not a surprise to me. Steed gained a lot of experience in the Premier League. He has found his place in the dressing room and he expresses himself on the pitch. Physically, he is also impressive."
