Steel Toe Cap likely to win his maiden in the Coleman Quarries Handicap
Steel Toe Cap is expected to break his maiden in the Coleman Quarries Handicap at Ballinrobe in Ireland on Tuesday, June 26, 2012, where the winner will get €5,175 for winning the 1 mile and 1 furlong event..
A total of 16 runners will battle it out for the prize money, which will put their stamina to test. Furthermore, the track conditions will be yielding to soft.
Most of the runners are struggling for form, thus it will be hard to predict the winner accurately. However, the bookmakers believe that, Steel Toe Cap, has got a solid chance of winning the race, as the conditions will suit his style of running.
The four-year-old gelding has participated in four events until now, and his performances in them have been satisfactory. He made his debut in May this year, and was given a starting price of 33 to 1 back then. He found the conditions a touch difficult, consequently finishing fifth.
This result was not bad for the Andrew Oliver’s trainee, as there were a total of 21 horses going up against him. However, he struggled to improve his performance next time around as well, and finished fifth once again, this time out of 13 runners.
The mediocre performances continued for Steel Toe Cap, as he finished sixth in his third outing. However, the hard work of his trainer helped him secure a career best, third place.
This result was quite encouraging for Fasliyev’s son, out of mare Sea Of Time, as he came close to winning the race. He had been given a starting price of 8 to 1 back then, and finished just a short head distance behind the runner-up.
Considering his most recent run, it appears that, Steel Toe Cap, will be a strong contender for victory in the Coleman Quarries Handicap.
He will be accompanied by young jockey, C. D. Hayes, who does not have an impressive strike rate. Despite that, he will be looking forward to a strong outing, as his recent form has been good.
Other than the race favourite, Curl Cat, trained by Thomas Cleary would also be the one to watch out for in the race.
