Steele Von Hoff takes 12th stage as Patrick Shaw seals victory in Tour of Murray River 2011
Genesys Wealth Advisers team’s Steele Von Hoff showed a brilliant effort to grab the12th stage of Tour of Murray River 2011 in Ouven on Friday, September 2. Patrick Shaw took the overall leader’s yellow jersey.
The Australian cyclist took a total of 1 hour, 53 minutes and 2 seconds to cover the distance of 86.5 kilometres. Ben Kersten of Swan Hill Heart of The Murray was in second place with the same timing of Sprinter.
After winning the stage, Von Hoff told the media, "If Cantwell wants to play this game, I will play just as hard, It’s friendly rivalry. I am delighted with my performance. I couldn’t be happier."
Philip Grenfell of Bikebug.Com was in third place ahead of Rico Rogers. Jonathan Cantwell (V Australia), Michael Freiberg (V Australia) and Nick Walker (V Australia) was in fifth, sixth and seventh place respectively.
Michael Verheyen (Plan B) tried his best to catch the leading cyclists but failed to hold his pace and grabbed 67th spot 20 seconds down to Hoff ahead of Andrew Martin.
The group of three cyclists made a breakaway lead including, Darren Lapthorne (Drapac Professional Cycling), Joseph Lewis (Bikebug.Com) and Jonathan Cantwell. Lapthorne took the first sprint of the stage. However, all of the riders were caught by the peloton
and Tansley launched an attacked to grab first place in the second sprint.
Eric Sheppard of Jayco VIS/Apollo was the first cyclists who made the preliminary attack but made an unsuccessful solo move. However, a dangerous break came from the group of 10 cyclists at the front of the field.
Bradeley Hall secured first place in preliminary climb while Joe Lewis increased his pace and managed to gain points in the second climb. However, in the final climb, Lewis launched an attack to grab first place.
Johnnie Walker (V Australia) took the overall sprint standing with 82 points ahead of Shaw and Lewis. Joseph Lewis secured the Hill Climb with 13 points ahead of Tansley while Adam Phelan (Drapac Professional Cycling) took the best young rider title.
Genesys Wealth Advisers team’s Patrick Shaw took the overall standing with the timing of 14 hours, 43 minutes and 18 seconds. The stage winner Steele Von Hoff was in second spot 6 seconds behind Shaw.
Adam Phelan of the Drapac Professional Cycling team was in third place with the difference of 25 seconds ahead of Jonathan Cantwell and Ben Kersten.
Von Hoff managed to put in a tremendous effort as he took the 12th stage. Shaw worked hard to triumph.
The next stage will run in Merbein and all the cyclists cover the distance of 33 kilometres.
