Steele Von Hoff wins ninth stage as Nathan Haas takes overall lead in Tour of Gippsland 2011
Genesys Wealth Advisers team’s Steele Von Hoff showed a tremendous effort in the ninth Criterium stage of Tour of Gippsland 2011 in Paynesville on Sunday, July 31. Nathan Hass maintained his overall leader’s yellow jersey.
In the final kilometres, Genesys Wealth Advisers team control the situation of the stage and with the help of his team he took the total of 57 minutes and 37 seconds to cover the distance of 44 kilometres.
Jordan Kerby of Jayco AIS in good form and tried to catch the leading riders but failed to hold his pace and grabbed 92nd place with the difference of 1 minute and 50 seconds ahead of Jason Rigg (Genesys Wealth Advisers) and Travers Nuttall (Forza
Capital- Bikebug.com).
After few kilometres to go, Ryan Macanally of SPAusnet followed the three cyclists including, Nicholas Sanderson (Genesys Wealth Advisers), Philip Grenfell (BIKEBUG.COM), Rico Rogers (Lakes Oil). All of them working together and joined the leading rider
Von Hoff.
With a few kilometres to go the four cyclists managed to take an advantage of a few seconds ahead of the other cyclists while Philip Grenfell launched an attack with Rico Rogers but they failed to hold on to the lead and Von Hoff increased his pace and crossed
the finish line ahead of the other cyclists.
Rico Rogers was runner-up and Philip Grenfell was in third place with the same timing of Sprinter. Aaron Jones (Pure Tasmania & Deloitte), Rene Kolbach (John West Cycling) and Evan Hull (Jayco VIS/Apollo) were in eighth, ninth and tenth place respectively.
A five cyclists including, Steven Del Gallo (John West Cycling), Sean Finning (Data#3 Cisco Capilano) and Daniel O'keefe (Parramatta Race Team) was disqualified.
Patrick Shaw took the overall sprint classification with 64 points while the race leader Haas was in second place with 42 points. Alexander Ray of Pure Black Racing was in third place with 33 points. Hass took the Hill Climb Championship with 14 points ahead
of Von Hoff while Alexander Ray took the title of most aggressive rider ahead of Chris Jongewaard.
Nathan took the overall standing with the timing of 12 hours, 6 minutes and 23 seconds. Bradley Linfield (Plan B) was runner-up with 18 second and Michael Cupitt finished third with 38 seconds ahead of Haas. He put in a brilliant performance and was rewarded
with a decent finish.
The stage winner Shaw was in 12 spot with the difference of 10 minutes and 59 seconds ahead Louis Crosby.
