Steelers' safety Troy Polamalu suffers head injury – NFL News
Pittsburgh Steelers' safety Troy Polamalu missed most of their Sunday’s game against Kansas City Chiefs due to a head injury that he had suffered in the first quarter of the match.
Reports confirmed that Steelers' safety had banged his head into Kansas City's defensive tackle Steve Maneri. He said that he had felt concussion like symptoms and immediately was taken to locker room for tests.
Steelers’ player had already been nursing his rib injuries. With the latest hit he had been wobbling before being helped by his team trainers on the sideline. He did not return to participate in the game again.
Polamalu has suffered concussion injuries earlier was well. He had left during Steelers' game against Jacksonville Jaguars on October 16.
The Player who was hit in the first quarter of the game was seen on the sideline during later part of the third and fourth quarters. He however was without his helmet and other protective gear, meaning he did not mean to join his
squad for rest of the game.
There is no word since his injury and his chances for participating in their next game which would be determined according to seriousness of his injury were not clear then. If he has suffered a concussion the chances for participation
in the game for rest of seasons will be over.
Keeping in view the serious nature of concussion injuries the recovery normally takes eight to nine months. Recently, rules to monitor concussions have tightened by the National Football League (NFL) office. The NFL and NFL Players
Association (NFLPA) have agreed to place an observer in press box during each game to monitor concussion and other injuries.
Polamalu had been declared Defensive Player of the year in 2010. He however has suffered a chain of injuries this year. This has affected his performance badly.
Meanwhile, Polamalu was not alone in giving injury scares to Pittsburgh Steelers. He was joined by Maurkice Pouncey who left the field in the second quarter with an illness. They were replaced by their left guard Doug Legursky
and Chris Kemoeatu.
Steelers recorded a win over Kansas City 13-9 in their Sunday game. They are in lead of American Football Conference (AFC) north division, along with Baltimore Ravens 8-3.
