I know I'm going to get a VARIETY of answers here, but I'm willing to take this risk. So try to contain yourselves.

I overheard some guy on ESPN talk about Steelers being SuperBowl contenders? WHAT IS UP WITH THAT?!?! I'm a Steelers fan, born and raised in Pittsburgh, I just don't see them going all the way!!!!!

What do you think?

  1. hahaha i dont think they have a chance in h**l of winning anything more than a wild-card game in the playoffs...there are at least 4 teams better than the steelers in the AFC alone....Pats,Colts,Jags,Chargers...

there you go....They just wont be able to beat ALL 4 of those teams this year...like i said...they might get to the second round in the playoffs....Mendenhall looks good though huh?....If he can hold on to the ball this year, yall will have a great one-two punch in the backfield....

  2. They need to tackle well.  The pre-season game against the Bills was a joke.

The D-Line needs to be able to pressure the QB without having to sell out a couple of LBs just to get pressure.

Honestly, the O-Line is going to be just fine.  Faneca, as good as he was, was a cancer last year because he didn't like the choice of coach.

The offense will be very productive.

Special teams are still a worry.  Sepulveda going down is going to be a larger factor than anyone might realize.  In the last 10-15 years or so, weak special teams has been an Achilles heel for some very good Steelers' squads.

Bottom line, it's all about synergy.  The Super Bowl champion is less often the best team in the league and more often the team that starts clicking on all cylinders at the right time.  Last years Giants are a prime example.

Troy needs to stay healthy.  Smith and Simmon need to anchor the O-line.  Aaron Smith needs to stay healthy.  Young DBs need to take their game to the next level (Taylor, McFadden).  A healthy Ryan Carter will make Polamalu's job much easier.  And Mendenhall needs to stop fumbling RIGHT NOW.  We don't need another Richard Huntley or Tim Worley.

Just remember the end of the regular season and playoff run in '05.  When all things fall into place, a team with decent talent can conquer the world.

  3. i doubt it but you never know

  4. life long steelerfan here too.  they have a chance as long as their o-line holds up and the d-backs come within 10 yards of the wr on the snap.

  5. As always ... Steelers are always a contender in the Super Bowl!!!

  6. It's hard to know yet...

  7. Steelers will easily win their division, so that automatically brands them as "Super Bowl Contendor."

However, I can't see them beating NE or SD in the 2nd playoff round.

10-6 or 11-5 record the Steelers.

  8. First off I'm a hugh Cowboys fan. So I have a deep hate for the Steelers. With that said, yes I do feel they a Contenders. With that running back tandem and Big Ben you guys should be feeling good about this season. Its still a very talented roster. Santonio Holmes is going have a break out season. Defenses will not know who to roll coverage to Holmes or Ward. If you can some how to cover them both that should open up lanes for Heath Miller.  So are they contenders? Yes. Will they win it all? Who knows, that's why we watch every Sunday. They are still a hard nose football team with a lot of grit. Even a Dallas Cowboys fan can respect that.Who knows maybe our two teams meet in the big one, an instant classic in my book.

  9. they gotta worry about making the playoffs first!

they got the toughest schedule in an up and rising division that is really up for grabs for any team!

  10. Yeah i think they could. With Big Ben, Willie Parker, and Mendenhall there offense is beast. An they have an AMAZING defense
