Steelers cautious about using Troy Polamalu in next game despite his recovery – NFL News
Despite that reports have confirmed that injury suffered by their safety Troy Polamalu was not a concussion, the Pittsburgh Steelers are cautious about using him in their next game against their close rivals in American Football
Conference (AFC) north division, the Cincinnati Bengals.
Polamalu had suffered a concussion-like symptoms injury in their game against Kansas City Chiefs on last Sunday. However, it was not clear from initial tests if it was a concussion, leaving a question mark on his future for rest
of current season.
Reports yesterday however confirmed that his injury was just a blow to head, it was not a concussion. The player therefore was declared fit to play his next game.
Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said that Polamalu was asymptomatic quickly and that he did not have any concussion-like symptoms since then. He said that they anticipated that the player would join them for next Sunday's game but still
they were cautious to make a definite statement on him.
"All things are positive in terms of his potential participation this week," Tomlin said. "Obviously, we'll continue to err on the side of caution."
One reason to take a precautionary stance on the player could be the reason that he has a long history of concussions. The latest scare was his second time in current season. He had already suffered a concussion in October this
year.
Tomlin was specifically asked by reporters if Polamalu runs risk of more injuries, concussions to be specific, if he plays. He said: "I don't have the answer to that. I'm not a medical expert. I think maybe those guys don't have
the definitive answer to that. Obviously, we're sensitive to his concussion history. We're always going to exercise the necessary precaution when dealing with it."
Polamalu had been forced out of the game against the Chiefs following a blow to his head. He did not return. Instead, he watched rest of the game from the sideline.
He has started every single game for the Pittsburgh Steelers this season. However if he misses the next Sunday game it will be for the first since 2005 that he does not start for a game.
