Steelers’ coach, Mike Tomlin discusses players’ safety with NFL office – NFL News
Pittsburgh Steelers’ coach, Mike Tomlin has reportedly discussed the issue of illegal hits and the players’ safety with the National Football League (NFL) office.
Tomlin met the NFL commissioner Roger Goodell at the NFL, the American football's premier league, headquarters in New York. He also met other officials of the League office and discussed the matter.
Information available on the team's website confirmed that Tomlin and Steelers owner Art Rooney had meeting with the NFL office pertaining these issues.
“Mr. Rooney and Commissioner Goodell thought it would be a good idea to meet with our football staff and coach Tomlin to review on-field issues that have been the focus of discussion recently,” NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said.
The rules with regard to the illegal hits and players safety were brought up at the meeting. The matters were particularly looked at in the context of some of players’ statements and comments about the frequent levy of penalties
against them. The players include the Pittsburgh Steelers safety Ryan Clark who has repeatedly been penalised for roughness in the game.
Clark has reportedly said that his hit against the Baltimore Ravens tight end, ED Dickson was being used as an example of legal tackle. The hit has resulted in fine of $40,000.
However, the meeting is not being considered any special matter, as it is most common that teams bring different issues to the knowledge of the NFL office during their bye week. They are a matter of routines. Detroit Lions team
also have had a meeting with the NFL commissioner and other officials a couple of weeks ago.
Steelers have given few remarks lately with regard to their understanding of penalties and fines, including the hefty fine of $40,000. The matters were expected to be brought into the knowledge of the League office by the team
management at some point of the current season.
A bye week in week 11 of the current regular NFL season gave the Steelers the perfect opportunity f to discuss the issues with the league office.
The Steelers are leading the American Football Conference (AFC) north division 7-3, one point ahead of Baltimore Ravens and Cincinnati Bengals.
