Steelers’ quarterback Ben Roethlisberger expected to play Chiefs game – NFL News
Pittsburgh Steelers’ quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is expected to play their game against Kansas City Chiefs this Sunday.
Roethlisberger fractured his thumb in the Steelers game against Cincinnati Bengals in the week before last week, on November 13. He, however, did not sit on the sideline in the game, despite his injury, and he is expected not to
be affected by his injury the next Sunday game, either.
He took part in the practice on Monday and Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said that Roethlisberger will be available to start at the quarterback position at the Kansas City coming weekend.
"Those of us who know Ben understand that he's going to show and show for his teammates," Tomlin said.
The quarterback was injured in the second half of the previous game but he did not miss a single snap and continued playing. Despite his injury he managed to throw 245 yards and scored a touchdown. However, most of score came in
the first half of the game, so the impact of injury could not be ascertained.
He practiced on Monday with his other teammates but kept wearing splint under his glove to protect his thumb. Mike Tomlin said that there should not be an issue with his joining the team for the next week's game.
"There's a pain tolerance issue," Tomlin said. "There's a comfortability issue. All of those things will be sorted out throughout the course of the week. To be honest with you, I'm not overly concerned about (Roethlisberger's)
ability to be effective in the midst of this."
To be on the safe side in case Roethlisberger is unavailable for the Sunday game, Tomlin said that they had depth at the quarterback position to cover his absence. Charlie Batch will be available as a backup while Dennis Dixon
right behind him, he said.
"We're comfortable with the men we have at that position, in that we're capable of playing winning football regardless of who's under centre," he said.
Meanwhile, Tomlin said that he expected safety Troy Polamalu who did not feel comfortable to practice with his rib injury was likely to be unavailable for Sunday.
