Steelers’ quarterback Ben Roethlisberger still hopeful for Monday return – NFL News
Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger missed out his Thursday practice hoping that extra rest might help him in the recovery from an ankle injury and increase his chances for return for Steelers’ game against San Francisco
49ers this Monday night.
Roethlisberger known as Big Ben had not joined his squad for practice on Wednesday and then Thursday to give him rest of another 24 hours. He however still remains a hard call for Steelers next tie.
"The goal is as soon as possible to get in there and get in as much work as I can," Roethlisberger said.
His side said that they will wait for him until warm-ups for their game against 49ers to see if he could make it to the game.
Big Ben hurt his ankle in the game against Cleveland Browns on past Sunday. The Steelers won that game 3-14.
Ben was in protective boot on the sideline during Wednesday practice. He however walked around without his boot for a while but apparently felt in pain. Moreover, he looked unable to do workout in other areas.
"If this was just a matter of pain, I'd be out there, but it's being physically unable to do certain things," he said.
The team management said that doctors have advised Roethlisberger to walk about without a protection on his ankle while taking extra precautionary approach on safety.
"The more I'm out of it, the more I want to move it," Roethlisberger said. "Movement is good because it gets the fluid out but I also catch myself every once in awhile turning it sideways or doing something and it almost puts me
to the ground."
The Steelers are desperate to hear a good news on Ben’s injury front as they face the 49ers in one of their crucial tie this Monday. The team with 10-3 score is tied with the Baltimore Ravens atop the American Football Conference
(AFC) north division.
They have three more games to play each, and their performance in all of them will determine their course to the divisional title and a playoff berth.
If Big Ben is out of their side this week, he will be the second player after their linebacker James Harrison who has been handed down a game ban by National Football League (NFL) over his involvement in a helmet-to-face mask hit
to Cleveland Browns Colt McCoy.
