Steelers’ safety Troy Polamalu injury not concussion, all cleared to play Sunday game – NFL News
A day after Pittsburgh Steelers safety Troy Polamalu's injury has left his team seriously concerned about his chances for rest of current football season he was lucky enough to have been all cleared to join the line-up in their
next game against Cincinnati Bengals this Sunday.
It was only until Sunday that his participation for next game as well as his chances for current season were in serious doubts following the news that he had suffered a head injury in Steelers game against Kansas City Chiefs on
past Sunday.
His injury was described to be a concussion-like symptoms and the player was immediately forced on the sideline.
However tests results confirmed on Monday that his injury was neither concussion nor serious enough to affect his chances for even next game, let alone whole current season.
Polamalu has a history of concussions and head injuries. He has already suffered two head injuries during this season. However, they did not affect his game.
The good news for the Steelers came via Twitter, a posting by The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, confirming that the player was ok and all cleared to play his next game this Sunday. His injury was described only a blow to his
head.
Despite their concerns Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin had remained cautious to make any specific comment on Polamalu's injury in his post-game news conference on past Sunday.
"Troy had a blow to the head, concussion-like symptoms," Tomlin said. "Again we wanted to err on the side of caution, that's why we didn't let him return to the game. I don't know at this juncture if it was a concussion. I want
to be clear there."
Polamalu’s injury had already come under discussion soon after Steelers Sunday’s game. There was an opinion that the player might have been able to continue his game despite his injury.
However, the new rules imposed by National Football League (NFL) office, as a result of an agreement reached between the NFL and NFL Players Association (NFLPA) to monitor concussions and other injuries, had made it impossible
for him to continue.
Under the agreement between the two organizations, the NFL has started to place an observer in Press Box to monitor concussion during each game. NFL observers have direct coordination with its head office in New York to make the
process of monitoring even more effective.
