Stefan Nystrand and Therese Alshammar impress in Stockholm: Day two – 2011 FINA World Cup
Sweden’s Stefan Nystrand and Therese Alshammar mesmerised Stockholm’s crowd due to their thrilling swims on day two of the 2011 FINA World Cup series, in Stockholm, Sweden, on Sunday, October 16. The session of the meet conducted the Men’s 50m freestyle
and Women’s 50m butterfly finals.
Swedish veteran, Stefan Nystrand thrashed out Canada’s Brent Hayden and compatriot, Petter Stymne by submitting a scintillating time of 21.70 seconds to win the Men’s 50m freestyle title. Meanwhile, Hayden finished second with a time of 21.76 seconds and
Stymine settled for third place with a mark of 21.82 seconds.
Australia’s Eamon Sullivan gave his best effort in the respective race and was placed fourth in a time of 21.88 seconds. In the meantime, Eamon Sullivan’s compatriot earned fifth position with a time of 21.93 seconds and United States’ Tyler Mcgill settled
for sixth place with a time of 22.00 seconds. Finally, Yang s**+ of China picked seventh spot in a time of 22.04 seconds.
Additionally, the Women’s 50m butterfly title was captured by Swedish veteran and Olympic medallist, Therese Alshammar, with a nerve-wrecking mark of 25.23 seconds. Therese has already won two gold medals in 100m butterfly and 50m freestyle events of the
current World Series. China’s Ying Lu picked silver medal in a time of 25.42 seconds, while Ingvild Snildal settled for bronze title in 26.27 seconds.
Sweden’s Louise Hansson earned fourth position with a time of 26.42 seconds, whereas, Canada’s athlete, Chantal Van Landeghem settled for fifth place with a time of 27.34 seconds. Therese Nord of Columbia and Celine Bertrand of Sweden picked sixth spot with
a matching mark of 27.67 seconds. Lastly, Ebba Rosenquist settled for eighth place with a time of 28.05 seconds.
The matchless swims of all swimmers captured the attention of the arena and the top three winning contestants were awarded accolades and cash prizes after the end of the session. The third round of the World Series is set to take place in Moscow, Russia,
from October 18-19.
