The 20-year-old insists that he wants to continue plying his trade at De Kuip Stadion despite several European clubs including Southampton taking keen interest in signing him.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Stefan-de-Vrij-c33987, has made it clear that he does not intend to leave the Stadiumclub at this point of his career, despite a host of European clubs including Southampton interested in his services.
The 20-year-old, who came through the ranks of the Rotterdammers’ youth academy, started his professional career at De Kuip Stadion in the summer of 2009.
The youngster has thus far represented the fallen Eredivisie giants in 77 league matches, providing rock solid defence while netting three goals along the way.
Although, the Dutchman does not have enough experience under his belt, there has been severe interest from several European clubs including Southampton, who are eager to add the central defender to their squad before the start of the 2012/13 season.
De Vrij was pleased to hear about the interest shown in him, but has made it clear that he does not want to leave the Rotterdam giants at this point of his career.
“I am pretty excited to hear that even Southampton are among my admirers. But it is too early for me to move abroad. I want to stay at Feyenoord”, the promising young centre-back was quoted as saying to the Dutch media.
Reports in the Dutch and English media had long been linking http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ron-Vlaar-c31697 with a move away from De Kuip Stadion to join Aston Villa. However, the Villans have thus far failed to reach an agreement with the Rotterdammers management over the 27-year-old’s transfer,
and it seems highly unlikely that a move will materialise.
With the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/AZ-c38571 Alkmaar stopper expected to remain at De Kuip, De Vrij was not hesitant to express his delight, and stressed that the Feyenoord captain’s stay at Rotterdam will benefit him a lot.
“It seems like Ron will remain in Rotterdam. And that is not only important for me, but will be beneficial for the whole team”, De Vrij concluded.
