Stefanie Michl grabs outright lead in second round of the Lacoste Ladies Open de France
Austrian Stefanie Michl pulled in a stunning round on second day of the Lacoste Ladies Open de France, to stay clear of the rest of the field by one stroke. Michl pulled in a stunning five-under, 67 on an otherwise hot and sunny day at the Paris International
Golf Club and stands as an outright leader so far in the event.
Michl said, “I’m happy with the way I played. I holed a few nice putts and gave myself a few good looks so I’m happy. The driver was better yesterday, for sure, but my irons, I hit some pretty close. I made some clutch putts so I think the putting was pretty
good today.”
Michl is anticipating her first Ladies European Tour victory in her career. The 25-year-old from Graz carded an opening round of four-under, 68 and has done well so far to stay on top of the summit of the €37,500 first prize contest.
Frenchwoman, Virginie Lagoutte-Clement and Italian, Diana Luna are two shots behind the lead settled for a joint third along with Kaisa Ruuttila and Minea Blomqvist of Finland and Englishwoman, Florentyna Parker. Lagoutte-Clement, who is looking for her
fourth tour victory, shot a disappointing 72 on the second day and blamed her putter for the devastating loss.
She said, “I am not very happy today because I didn’t play well. On 18, I hit the green in two and made three putts.”
One stroke behind the leader is Finnish golfer, Ursula Wikstrom, who has done consecutively well in the last few weeks on the LET. She pulled in six birdies without dropping a shot on the second day and is well poised to lift her first LET title.
Overnight leader, Cassandra Kirkland, who started-off the event with a blistering opening round of eight-under, 64, suffered a devastating second day, falling for a two-over, 74. She dropped no fewer than four shots throughout the day and lost her overnight
lead to settle for joint eighth.
Caroline Hedwall, the trailblazing golfer rookie on the tour, also had a disappointing day when she carded a second round of 71, against her humble start of 69 on the first day. Hedwall remained bogey less on the first day on the event but stumbled on three
bogeys in the second round and carded four birdies to make up for the loss.
