Stefanie Voegele takes down Kimiko Date-Krumm in the final – Dunlop World Challenger 2012
Third seeded, Stefanie Voegele, outmuscled the local challenger, Kimiko Date-Krumm, in the final round of the 2012 Dunlop World Challenge tennis tournament, in Toyota, Japan. The Swiss challenger jumped forward and grabbed her
straight-sets win at 7-6(3), 6-4 on the eve of Sunday.
The duo faced each for the third time. Previously, the Swiss professional secured her win in an exciting three-set match, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 in the month of October 2012 at the indoor hard courts of the Limoges Challenger.
The 22-year-old Swiss preserved her initial serve in the opener but received an equally shocking response by her rival in the Sunday’s crunch match. The Japanese took maximum advantage of her home ground, proving her greater experience
and jammed her 3-2 lead in the fifth game. This aroused an alarming situation for the higher ranked Swiss professional and she remarkably squared down the score line to 4-all in the eighth game. After that point, the two professionals waged a tough combat
against one another, levelling the score line after every alternate game. None of the professionals ended their thrust to dominate the other, which concluded the opening set with a tie-break. Voegele proved her potential after a fierce battle against her senior
opponent and nudged up to terminate the set with a 7-6(3) lead.
In the second set, two professionals commenced a sloppy start, as none of them was able to hold their serve in the initial part. The two contenders progressed at an equal pace in the beginning and the score line evened down to
2-all in the fourth game. Despite of her less experience, the Swiss player took the front line by cashing onto her competitor’s serve, attaining the lone break chance in the fifth game. This completely crashed Krumm’s confidence and she was unable to capitalize
her destined win. Ultimately, the right-hander, Swiss professional secured the triumph with a 6-4 win.
World number 116, Voegele, attained an average initial serve precision of 59 percent, thundering forward eight aces. She converted 32 of 47 first and 15 of 33 second serve points. In comparison to this, the 42-year-old Japanese
secured 74 percent first serve with 33 of 61 points.
