There has been a huge outcry on the incidents at the Luigi Ferraris, when the Genoa ultras’ stopped play for forty
minutes after leaking in four goals against Siena.
Genoa have not had the best of forms in recent matches, as their form has pummelled them down into the 17th position,
and are a single point above the relegation zone. The Genoa fans could not bear the humiliation from Siena, and threatened to swarm the field of play.
The match took a turn for the worst ten minutes into the start of the second half after Giuseppe Sannino’s men scored their
fourth goal of the night. The Grifone ultras’ protested vehemently, and blocked the player’s tunnel and demanded the shirts of all players, as the fans did not see them worthy of wearing the Rossoblu jerseys.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Marco-Rossi-c23739, the club captain, had to negotiate with the fans and in the end succumbed to the pressure at the Marassi, and took
all the shirts from the players. The ring leaders of the Genoa ultras’ have been handed down five years ban, and they would not be able to attend any of the matches held at the Luigi Ferraris stadium for the next five years. The investigation is still under
process and punishments would be handed to all involved in causing the disruption.
The game was temporarily stopped, as the Genoa ultras’ hurled flares onto the field of play, and caused havoc at the start of
the second half.
The Atalanta boss gave his opinion on the issue and stated that it was a sad day for Italian football and stated that this portrayed
Italian football in an extremely negative light. He further commented:
“I think our football has a really bad image. Yesterday things went too far.”
The Orobici manager drew comparison from the English Premier League and stated that the fans there cheered their teams on, even
if they get relegated and mentioned that they need to learn sporting behaviour. He remarked:
“Especially if we consider the episode in Genoa in relation to what happened in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749, where Wolverhampton Wanderers’ fans
cheered their team even as they were relegated.”
Genoa will be playing in a closed stadium for their remaining home encounters.
